President's message winter 08:

Micki LaForgia, President

Dear WID Members;

WID

WID WINTER MESSAGE

I'm overwhelmed. No, not by the holiday crush of shopping, wrapping, partying (though that was fun!), but by the dedication, commitment and energy of the WID Executive Team that I inherited when I became Monmouth Chapter President in October. This team covered everything from our careers - "The Art of Success" series - to our health - the Breast Cancer Awareness luncheon that netted $4,000 for research into this awful disease, supporting the Making Strides Walk and the weekly Power Hour that reminds us to take care of ourselves so we can stay healthy and strong for our other commitments. The "Feng Shui For Your Desk" luncheon was informative and FUN, and non-programmed events such as Fort Monmouth's 90th Anniversary celebration brought the team together on short notice to support them as well.

Unlike the holidays that are often followed by some "down time," WID is gearing up with a full program schedule for the New Year. The networking/mentoring series will kick off again at our monthly meeting on 22 January, and will continue with additional programs in March and May. February is always full of hearts, and WID will take advantage of that theme with a Heart Healthy luncheon. Heart disease is the No.1 killer of women, causing more deaths than all forms of cancer (including breast cancer) combined, and as working women we're more likely to experience the risks associated with this killer. You owe it to yourself to attend that luncheon!

On behalf of the Executive Team, I wish you a happy and healthy 2008 and look forward to seeing you at WID programs in the New Year!

Micki LaForgia
