Celebration of the 25th Anniversary, 2010

Chapter, National Celebrate Women's History Month at Memorial, Partner with Related Women's Associations

WID National President Margaret DiVirgilio reflects on an exhibit illustrating American servicewomen in the global war on terror.

The Women In Military Service For America Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia, was the setting for tours, networking and brunch when the Capital Chapter and National Board celebrated Women's History Month in late March. Participants learned about the lives of service women in all periods of our nation's history from a tour guided by memorial staff. 

Women's associations with related missions were invited to participate. Thirteen were represented:

  • Business and Professional Women's Foundation
  • DoD Senior Professional Women's Association
  • IEEE Women in Engineering
  • National Contract Management Association Women's Forum
  • National Women's History Museum
  • Society of Women Engineers

  • Women in Homeland Security
  • Women In International Security
  • Women In Technology


Members, Past Leaders, Friends Celebrate WID 25th Anniversary

Members and supporters of Women In Defense gathered at a reception to note the 25th anniversary of the organization's official establishment Dec. 19, 1985. Among the dignitaries attending the Dec. 17 event in Arlington, Va., were past WID National Presidents Carolyn Becraft and Susan Ebner. Karen Wilson represented the National Contract Management Association in her capacity as president. WID National President Margaret DiVirgilio led attendees in remembering the association's path from the idea of seven defense professionals to its role today as the fastest-growing NDIA affiliate.
