WID receives numerous inquiries from professional women in the national security field across the country about membership and how to form chapters. Responding to these requests, WID has designated responsibility for the development and encouragement of new chapters to its vice president. The outgoing vice president, Julie Alford, said that she has seen an increased interest in WID during her term in office. "Clearly, WID's emphasis on professional development and networking is meeting the needs of more and more women in the national security field," she said. To assist in the formation of new chapters, WID has developed a comprehensive chapter manual, which is available for downloading from its Web site at: wid.ndia.org. A chapter formation checklist is included, along with suggestions for chapter activities, a sample financial statement and model chapter by-laws. Norma Byron, president of the Ashlawn Group, LLC, is president of Women In Defense. Archives
